Alaska Volcano Observatory

AVO technician Cyrus Read works on the electronics inside the new hut at station SPNN on the northwest side of Spurr. In the foreground is the vault containing the seismometer, with a compass perched on the edge to ensure the sensor is oriented due north. The cable is run through a sturdy cable housing to prevent animals (e.g. bears) chewing through the cable.
