| Location description: | Small gravel pit on the north side of the Glenn Highway, Alasksa, approximately 6 km east of the Chickaloon River crossing. Half-meter thick exposure of loess interbedded with layers of tephra and peat that mantles crumbling black shale of the Matanuska Formation. Four tephra recorded in the stratigraphy of this location, two of which were sampled and analyzed. See Fontana (1988) for detailed stratigraphy. Coordinates provided as degrees/minutes and converted to decimal degrees; datum not provided, assumed to be NAD83. |
