Location description: |
The Delta-age terrace surface slopes down-valley and is covered by loess that generally thins with increasing distance from the Tanana River. Excavations in the 1980s on the Eielson Air Force Base near Moose Creek Bluff exposed deposits of gravelly alluvium buried by 10 to 15 cm of loess, overlain by a dark, organic-rich histic paleosol 10 to 30-cm-thick, then by a white ash bed 20 to 30 cm thick, and capped by 50 to 70 cm of loess. No datum provided, assumed to be NAD83. |
