Text Description: A dense porphyritic, olive basalt, light brownish-gray (5YR 6/1). About 85 per cent phenocrysts, chiefly plagioclase, salite, and olivine. Plagioclase clear, ranging in size from 2 to 0.2 mm, in composition from An98 to An54, with a median of about An67. Extreme outer zones reach An10. Salite crystals are greenish-black (5G 3/1) in hand specimen, reaching a size of 4mm. NX is 1.701 and nZ 1.728, corresponding to salite with atomic proportions of Fe25Ca50Mg25. Olivine, which is sparse, reaches a size of about 1mm, in honey-yellow (10YR 6/4) crystals, with nY about 1.714, corresponding to Fa30.
