Text Description: |
Tephra KG is found only in the northern region of the island and is exposed in four sections (Tannenbaum_1996_CL-04, Tannenbaum_1996_AB-01, Tannenbaum_1996_OB-01, & Tannenbaum_1996_OB-03). Tephra KG is orange in color with an average thickness of 3 cm. Although DFA classifies these 4 samples together; DFA, stratigraphic position and c14 dates contradict. Samples from sections Tannenbaum_1996_CL-04, Tannenbaum_1996_AB-01, Tannenbaum_1996_OB-01 can be grouped as a unit and fit the inter-section stratigraphy. However, stratigraphic position places Tannenbaum_1996_OB-03 out of sequence with the other sections. In addition, section Tannenbaum_1996_OB-03 does not fitchronologically because c14 dates of 4560 +/- 80 yr BP (maximum) and 3970 +/- 80 yr BP (minimum) for section Tannenbaum_1996_OB-03 place it 900 - 1000 years younger than section Tannenbaum_1996_OB-01 dated to 5530 +/- 80 yr BP (maximum) and 5100 +/- 90 yr BP (minimum) Therefore, the geochemically similar sample in section Tannenbaum_1996_OB-03 is probably a different deposit. Individual samples: 94KOD053, 94KOD064, 94KOD074. |
