Text Description: | Tephra KC is found in the eastern, western, and northern regions of the island. Located in five stratigraphic sections, (Tannenbaum_1996_PP-01, Tannenbaum_1996_KL-01, Tannenbaum_1996_CL-03, Tannenbaum_1996_OB-01, &Tannenbaum_1996_ OB-03), this unit is orange in color with an average thickness of 10 cm. Bracketing c14 dates from section Tannenbaum_1996_OB-01 give the unit a maximum age of 8360 +/- 90 yr BP and a minimum age of 7670 +/- 70 yr BP. In section Tannenbaum_1996_KL-01 tephra KC is a 15 cm thick, laterally continuous layer with 0-6 cm high discontinuous pods of identical tephra exposed in colluvium above. The tephra pods are likely to have been re-deposited by colluvial transport from the slopes above. Thickness of the eastern and western deposits (Tannenbaum_1996_PP-01, Tannenbaum_1996_KL-01, & Tannenbaum_1996_CL-03) average 15 cm and are much thicker than the 1-2 cm deposits to the north (Tannenbaum_1996_OB-01 & Tannenbaum_1996_OB-3). Individual samples: 94KOD023, 94KOD060, 94KOD067, 94KOD116, 94KOD151, 94KOD152. | ||||||||||
