Description
From Wood and Kienle (1990) [1] : "A low vent and associated flow occur at Kochilagok Hill. Geologic maps designate the volcano as chiefly basalt scoria."Name Origin
"Kochilagok Hill" is a Yup'ik name that refers to the "crake" (lesser sandhill crane, Grus canadensis canadensis) and reported by the U.S. Coast and Geodetic Survey in 1949. Gabrielson and Lincoln (1959) report that the name means "color body, red" (Orth, 1971).
