Notice: Planned Maintenance and Power Downs at Butrovich Data Center - Website Service Outage

On Saturday, May 20, UAF Facilities Services and OIT will be conducting a planned maintenance at the Butrovich Data Center (BDC) to integrate a new Uninterruptible Power Supply and perform essential electrical updates. The BDC is a critical facility that houses computing and networking hardware for the University of Alaska system, including the servers of the Alaska Volcano Observatory (AVO). This maintenance work is necessary to ensure the continued high-availability capabilities of the data center.

During the maintenance, all electrical systems in the BDC must be powered down completely. Consequently, all services and systems within the BDC, including the avo.alaska.edu website, will be temporarily unavailable.

Please take note of the following maintenance schedule in AKDT (Alaska Daylight Time):

Saturday, May 20: From 3:00 AM to 10:00 PM AKDT

During these maintenance periods, the primary responsibility for reporting on volcanic activity in Alaska will be handled by the USGS Volcano Hazards Program. You can access their updates at https://www.usgs.gov/programs/VHP/volcano-updates#avo.

If you have any questions or concerns regarding this maintenance, please feel free to contact Scott Crass at scott.crass@alaska.gov.

We apologize for any inconvenience caused by these necessary maintenance activities and appreciate your understanding as we work diligently to ensure the continued reliability and performance of the Butrovich Data Center.
