ALASKA VOLCANOES - TEACHER ACTIVITY GUIDEBOOK & KIT
A professional development course through the USGS Alaska Science Center and Alaska Pacific University
Alaska Volcano Observatory / USGS geologist and Education and Outreach Specialist Jennifer N. Adleman, MS, is teaching a professional development course through the Alaska Pacific University (1-credit, EDUC 57020).
Participants will conduct, refine and complete ~ 21 secondary-level activities focused on Alaskan volcanism. Participants will assign appropriate Alaska's science standards (GLEs) to the activities and will also:
1. Add vocabulary lists to the activities
2. Determine the length of time needed to complete the activities
3. Determine the desired setting in which to conduct the activities, and
4. Develop appropriate assessment and/or follow-up for the activities.
These activities are for an Alaska volcanoes teacher guidebook.
The activities are intended for grades 6-11 and will be used for the stand-alone guidebook. The text will also accompany a trunk (aka kit) of associated materials to be housed at least a half dozen agencies and clearinghouses throughout Alaska for check-out by teachers for classroom use. Participants will determine the needed, associated materials to be provided in this trunk.
