Big Lake (middle distance) is a shallow fresh-water lake located within the tombolo that connects Northeast Point to the main body of St. Paul Island. The Polovina Hill cinder cone complex (on the horizon) dominates eastern St. Paul Island. One of the largest monogenetic centers on St. Paul, Polovina Hill is two kilometers in diameter at its base and rises 120 m above its surrounding lava shield.
