Panorama of the summit pond of Lower Klawasi mud volcano in the Copper River Basin west of Mt. Drum, in the Wrangell Mountains near Glennallen, AK. The tree stumps show that, at some time in the distant past, the summit of Lower Klawasi was lower and forested. A dramatic increase in mud output then buried the summit and flanks beneath several meters (yards) of mud, its approximate thickness illustrated by the height of the crater walls.
