View of the east flank of Korovin volcano, July 7, 2004. Gray-ash deposit clearly is visible atop the snow, although its significance is unclear. The deposit may be the result of phreatic explosions or vigorous wind remobilization of ash from within the summit crater. Photograph by T. Fournier (used with permission), UAFGI.
McGimsey and others (2008) and Neal and others (2009) detail satellite imagery and field observations of ash on the upper east flank of Korovin volcano in late June - early July, 2004, likely from a small phreatic eruption of Korovin prior to late June.
