Collector: Unknown, Unknown
Date visited:
NAD83 latitude: 51.9
NAD83 longitude: -176.59998
Default location: No
Location description: Ten tephras were correlated between Andrew and Heart Lakes on Adak Island, based on the physical characteristics of each tephra bed (color, particle size, thickness, internal stratigraphy, MS) and its position in the stratigraphic sequence, along with the size, shape, and composition (crystal, lithic, glass) of individual particles as described under binocular microscope and in SEM imagery. These were designated as "Adak lakes tephras” (ADL) and assigned consecutive numbers from youngest to oldest. Therefore, the "samples" listed at this station are not physical samples, but rather describe the regionally correlated tephra units on Adak Island. See individual "sample" descriptions for a list of individual samples that were correlated. Generic location selected on Adak Island.
