Alaska Volcano Observatory

Peat deposits on the tableland of Amchitka Island, largest island in the Rat Island group, Alaska. Three layers of volcanic ash were exposed in the profile of a 2.8-m-thick peat deposit during trenching at an altitude of about 125 feet. Coordinates of trenching location not provided, so generic location selected on Amchitka Island.
