Location description: Deep-sea core collected in the Gulf of Alaska during 1953-1959, aboard the research vessel Brown Bear, Department of Oceanography, University of Washington. Study of the cores shows that three different ash layers or horizons rich in volcanic ash of different compositions may be present: an upper layer of Katmai ash, a middle (basic) ash layer, and a lower andesitic ash layer. Coordinates provided as degrees/minutes/seconds and converted to decimal degrees; datum not specified, assumed to be NAD27.
