Text Description: Vesicular porphyritic lava flow containing 50% phenocrysts of plagioclase and two pyroxenes in a microcrystalline groundmass | (Riehle) Walk up gully to sample dark tephra. 15° dips on 1-2m layers of airfall tephra. Lowest exposed unit is lava flow w/ oxidized, brecciated tops. Samps A&B (2 pieces) is vesicular brown lava and vesicular black porphyritic lava which occurs as minor but persistent inclusions. Some black pums survived and stretched, as if highly plastic (melting?) prior to solidification of hot lava. | Samp C is granitic inclusion in sintered cinder layer. Seems partly melted. [RI= 1.55 (56%?)]. | Samp D is grabo from sintered cinder horizon. Horizon has faint red bottom, tap; bulk is highly inflated, black lava. Rare granitic inclusions. Adjacent horizons are dull brown, dense ash and lapilli deposits.
