Text Description: | From Feeley and Winer (1999): "On the east side of the isthmus connecting Reef Point to the main island are two compositionally similar, faulted and tilted pahoehoe lava flows. The lower flow of black basalt (ERP2) displays well-developed columnar jointing and both have well-preserved, smooth, ropy surfaces. Both flows were probably very fluid when erupted as suggested by the small diameter (~4 cm) of the glassy surface ropes. The combined thickness of both flows is ~5 m." |
