Text Description: | NE Snowy volcano. Second flow of stack to north; 3000-ft rim facing Rainbow Race Glacier; 4.9 km NNW of Peak 7090. Sample has a whole-rock K-Ar calculated age of 171 +/- 8 ka (Hildreth and others, 2001). Sample in thin section is 25-30% plagioclase to 2.5 mm, 10% subequal amounts of clinopyroxene and orthopyroxene, to 3 mm, 1-2% oxides, to 0.4 mm, contains no olivine, no sieved plagioclase, and does contain oxide-pyroxene-plagioclase aggregates. |
