Text Description: A silicic block from a baked portion of the carapace of dome C unit at Site 7. Fine grained, holocrystalline, porphyritic with a matrix of plagioclase, opaque and alteration (reddish color from oxidation). Plagioclase phenocrysts (An37 - An48) are up to 1.1 mm and strongly zoned. Opaque phenocrysts are up to 0.25 mm for primary phenocrysts; much of the opaque is secondary oxidation of orthopyroxene needles. Orthopyroxene phenocrysts are up to 0.7 mm and most is oxidized to opaque.
