Text Description: A very platy dike trending N70°E at Site 5. Fine grained, holocrystalline, porphyritic with a matrix of cryptocrystalline material, opaque, plagioclase and alteration. A 3.5 mm crystal clot of plagioclase, clinopyroxene and opaque is present. The lack of melting along the edge of the clot suggests that it is cognate. Plagioclase phenocrysts (An45 - An58) are up to 3.0 mm and often are rounded with both oscillatory and normal zoning and occasionally with resorption embayments. Orthopyroxene phenocrysts are up to 1.95 mm, intensely pleochroic and some have clinopyroxene rims and/or opaque inclusions. Clinopyroxene phenocrysts are up to 0.9 mm. Opaque phenocrysts are up to 0.3 mm.
