Text Description: Agglutinated wall overlying a very thick pyroclastic flow at Site 8. Fine grained, holocrystalline, seriate porphyritic with a matrix of mesostasis, opaque, plagioclase, orthopyroxene? and calcite patches. Plagioclase phenocrysts (An41 - An57) are up to 1.4 mm, sieve textured zones and normal zoning are common; there is occasionally oscillatory zoning and mica alteration. Olivine phenocrysts are up to 2.0 mm and partially to totally altered. Orthopyroxene phenocrysts are up to 0.85 mm and sieve textured; smaller crystals have clinopyroxene rims. 74.7% matrix, 20.7% plagioclase, 2.8% olivine, 1.6% clinopyroxene, 0.2% alteration.
