Text Description: Sample is from a flow package at Site 13 underlying Dome G. The package is composed of rubbly and highly vesicular flows with ~5’ thick massive zones. The flow package is about 150’ thick and is cut by 94SJP101A and 94SJP101B. The sample is from the base of the flow package. Fine grained, vesicular, holocrystalline, seriate to glomeroporphyritic with a matrix of mesostasis, opaque, plagioclase and clinopyroxene. Plagioclase phenocrysts (An40 - An60) are up to 3.12 mm and occasionally have rounded or resorbed rims, and usually have normal zoning; oscillatory zoning is less common. Orthopyroxene phenocrysts are up to 1.05 mm and occasionally have clinopyroxene rims. Clinopyroxene phenocrysts are up to 0.4 mm. An altered phase, olivine?, is present.
