Near vertical, ~ 1 m thick dike trending N30°E and cutting through Dome A at Site 2. Fine-grained, vesicular, diktytaxitic, hypocrystalline, intersertal, locally intergranular, seriate porphyritic with a matrix of brown glass, opaque, plagioclase, clinopyroxene and reddish alteration. Plagioclase phenocrysts (An31 - An58) are up to 1.85 mm and many of the larger grains are strongly sieve textured and may have thin overgrowth rims; complex zonation is common. Orthopyroxene phenocrysts are 0.7-0.12 mm. An altered phase is present. |
