Approximately 2-4' thick massive zone in an otherwise rubbly and blocky unit from the base of the capping wall-like andesite package at Site 7. Fine grained, vesicular, holocrystalline, seriate porphyritic with a matrix of mesostasis, opaque, plagioclase and alteration. Plagioclase phenocrysts (An39-An63) are up to 3.35 mm and often display sieve textured zones. Orthopyroxene phenocrysts are up to 0.7 mm and a few are sieve textured. Two different altered phases are present, one is now red to orange alteration, while the other is chlorite alteration. |
