Wall-like dike, 3-5' wide, with polygonal jointing, and trending N40E. The dike bifurcates into two about 2' thick arms and cuts through silicic material (94SJP85C). Fine grained, vesicular, hypocrystalline, seriate to glomeroporphyritic with a matrix of mesostasis, opaque, plagioclase, and small pools of brown glass. Plagioclase phenocrysts (An39-An57) are up to 4.62 mm, often have sieve textured zones, sometimes have altered inclusions, and occasionally have overgrowth rims or oscillatory zoning. Orthopyroxene phenocrysts are up to 2.87 mm. Clinopyroxene phenocrysts are up to 1.87 mm and some have plagioclase inclusions. A completely altered phase, olivine? is present. |
