Text Description: outcrop on the northern nose of the Boyden Hills at Site 1. The outcrop is 100-150' thick and composed of 10-20' thick flows. 93SJP49D is the top flow. Fine grained, holocrystalline, equigranular with a matrix of opaque and alteration. Plagioclase phenocrysts are up to 1.1 mm, occur as subparallel blades and are partially altered. Anhedral plagioclase phenocrysts (An51) are up to 2.36 mm, and fill in between the other phenocrysts or enclose olivine, pyroxene, and/or opaque crystals; most of this plagioclase is untwinned and has undulatory extinction. Olivine phenocrysts are up to 1.3 mm, anhedral, occasionally have resorption embayments, some have opaque inclusions. Titan-augite phenocrysts are up to 1.1 mm. Opaque phenocrysts are up to 0.2 mm. Mode: 7.4% matrix, 51.5% opaque, 1.4% alteration.
