Text Description: Sample of lava flow forming the small hill (Hill 1350) south of Kittiwake Pond, is a pale gray, porous holocrystalline olivine andesite, about 77% plagioclase, which ranges in composition from An20 to An70 and averages about An45. Clinopyroxene grains, 0.1 to 0.5 mm (Di60,He40), make up 15% of the rock; olivine grains (Fa20), ranging in size from 0.2 to 2 mm, about 5%; and magnetite grains, 0.1 to 0.5 mm in size, about 3%. A trace of hypersthene is present. The seriate texture is essentially determined by the presence of stout subparallel laths of plagioclase with interstitial granules of clinopyroxene and magnetite.
