Text Description: | Andesite basalt, flow or sill, S. Tanaga. Specimen 52-Fs-94 (Rittmann: andesine basalt) is a black, very fine grained rock. About 1 percent consists of scattered phenocrysts of plagioclase, clinopyroxene, and pseudomorphs after olivine. The groundmass has a strong flow structure and consists of microlites of calcic andesine, clinopyroxene, and opaque oxides. |
