Text Description: Sample from southwest flank 1,000’ asl. Porphyritic olivine basaltic andesite. Phenocrysts of plagioclase (20%, up to 3.6 x 0.9 mm) and olivine (5%, 0.4 mm) in a groundmass of plagioclase laths (150 x 20 microns), smaller intersertal pyroxenes and opaque grains, and interstitial glass. This sample is one of very few collected from Vsevidof in 1988 that has plagioclase crystals with extensive spongy regions, typically throughout the crystal, but occupying the outer 0.4 mm of anomalously large crystals, and with the exception of a thin (~ 20 micron) clear rim.
