Text Description: Sampled 55 cm from the top of the 65-cm thick P-seam of Barnes and Cobb (1959). FC13 is 2 cm thick, orange-brown, and medium- to coarse-grained. The boundaries with the enclosing coal are sharp. There are no other tephra or detrital layers in this coal bed. Rounded to subangular grains of about 15-20% volcanic rock fragments and 15-20% plagioclase. The volcanic rock fragments tend to be more rounded than the feldspar. The plagioclase may have rare altered glass fringes. Two to 3% k-spar and trace quartz and polycrystalline quartz, opaques, zircon, and organic material.
