Text Description: This prominent 4-cm thick, fine- to medium-grained, nearly white sample was collected from near the base of a 195 cm coal/siltstone unit. About 135 cm siltstone overlies FC8. The boundaries of FC8 with the siltstone is sharp. This sample (whole-rock thin section) is nearly identical to FC7 and contains about 90% mostly unaltered bubblewall shards and about 3% pumice fragments. There are 5-7% of angular, vaguely twinned plagioclase grains in the finer fraction, and trace hornblende, opaques, and quartz(?).
