Text Description: A thin, pink-gray, fine-grained, 1-cm tephra layer sampled 120 cm from the top of a 65-cm thick coal unit that has several other tephra or mixed tephra/detrital layers, as well as sandstone, shale, and carbonaceous shale layers. FC3 is directly overlain and underlain by 10-1 5-cm layers of fine-grained sandstone mixed with coal fragments. The contacts with the sandstone are sharp. The sample contains mostly very fine glass. It was not possible to make a thin section of this sample.
