Sample ID is the core number_cruise-and-sample-number_length (cm) from Table 1 in Nayudu (1964), which contains the list of the cores containing volcanic ash, their position, depth and length. Depth of 2,020 fathoms. Andesitic ash layer occurs from 28-31.5 cm within this core. This ash layer occurs within foraminifera-rich sediments and is characterized by high glass content and consists of about 10-15% minerals and crystals. Refractive index of the vitric glass shards is 1.505 +/- 0.002. The shards are triangular, plate-like or irregular in shape, with inclusions of oval-shaped bubble. The ash is older than 25,800 +/- 1,300 years and younger than 30,000 years. |
