| Text Description: | Brown ash sample collected over timed intervals (about 30 to 60 minutes) as the ash fell on the patio of the Alaska Volcano Observatory. Most of the ash fell during a period of about 3 hours. Ash consists of dense, dark volcanic rock fragments with phenocrysts of plagioclase, pyroxene, hornblende, and FeTi oxides in a matrix of brown glass rich in microlites. |
