Pavlof 1974/9

Start: September 2, 1974 [1]

Stop: January 6, 1975 [1]

Event Type: Explosive

Max VEI: 2 [2]

Event Characteristics:
  • Tephra plume [1]
  • Minor explosive eruption [1]

Description: Jacob and Hauksson (1983) write that between September 2, 1974 and January 6, 1975, Pavlof experienced an "eruption in central crater, and normal explosions, with moderate ash eruptions, plume rising to max 6 km ASL. Reports of lava flow may be incorrect. Explosions and intermittent tremor recorded." McNutt (1985) reports several discrete periods of explosion quakes during this time: October 29 - November 17, 1974; November 25 - December 16, 1974; December 25, 1974 - January 6, 1975.
