Description: On August 18, 1958, R.B. Benjamin, a Reeve Aleutian co-pilot, reported that Pavlof volcano was "more active than usual." Pavlof often smokes "but now lava is running half way down the side of the volcano" (Anchorage Daily News, August 19, 1958).
Jacob and Hauksson (1983) report that this eruption began on May 7 and lasted until August 28, and that the lava flow moved downslope on May 14, 1958.
