Description: From Grewingk (1850, translated 2003 by Fritz Jaensch): "According to Sauer (Engl., p. 226, German, p. 259) and Sarychev (II, p. 76) smoke was seen on the seventeenth of June 1791. It came from the hot springs of the formerly active volcano."
Coats (1950) reports smoke at Kanaga in 1791.
