EVENT SPECIFIC INFORMATION

Event Name : Iliamna 1786

This is a questionable event.

Start: 1786 Observed

"Smoke": BibCard
Eruption Type:Other

Description: From Kisslinger (1983), translating Doroshin (1870): "Portlock and Dickson, who were at the entrance to Kenai Bay in 1786, appended to the description of their journey a view of Iliamna giving off smoke. It has not ceased smoking since that time. Smoke can be distinguished in three places: on the southeast side of the mountain, a little below the summit; from the cone found on the eastern rim, also below the summit; and from a third location, visible only under special conditions, which I did not encounter."
