Description: Golovnin reports that on June 28, 1818, he could see a high mountain on [Great] Sitkin emitting smoke. It is uncertain if this reference to "smoke" is evidence of an actual volcanic eruption, as Great Sitkin also has prominent fumaroles that are often steaming.
