Text Description:
Sample in thin section is 20-25% plagioclase, to 3 mm; 10% subequal amounts of clinopyroxene and orthopyroxene, to 2 mm; 1% oxides to 0.2 mm; 2% olivine to 1.5 mm; sieved plagioclase present in a few grains; oxide-pyroxene-plagioclase aggregates present. SW Snowy volcano. 4000-ft rim of ice-mantled lava flow, 5.2 km SE of Peak 6770. Sample has a whole-rock K-Ar calculated age of 92 +/- 10 ka (Hildreth and others, 2001).
