Text Description: Knob on the west side of Mt. Gordon. Outcrop consists of red scoria rubble occasionally encasing dark blue melt. Interpreted as a "fire fountain" eruption setting. Gabbroic xenoliths are present in massive melt material. May represent the youngest activity in the area. Sample 18A is blue-gray agglutinate with 3-5% small (<1 mm) olivine phenocrysts and 5-7% 1-2 mm acicular plagioclase. 18B is a red pyroclastic sample with the same mode. References: ![]() |
