SAMPLE INFO : 93SJP39
Sample ID:93SJP39
Station ID:93SJP39
Latitude:62.445
Longitude:-143.1246
Datum:NAD83
Date Sampled:1993-00-00
Sample Type 1:Lava
Sample Type 2:Flow
Field Lithology:Dacite
Text Description:
Highly fractured outcrop with flow folding in the silicic material near the base of Site 5. Fine-grained, hypocrystalline, porphyritic with a matrix of glass, feldspar and opaque. Plagioclase phenocrysts (An31 - An58) are up to 2.5 mm and some have sieve texture throughout or in zones; there is strong oscillatory zoning, resorbed rims, overgrowth rims on resorbed grains, and amphibole or opaque inclusions. Amphibole phenocrysts are 2.4 -0.1 mm with yellow green-green pleochroism, and some have resorbed rims and/or opaque inclusions. Orthopyroxene phenocrysts are up to 0.5 mm and some have opaque inclusions. Opaque phenocrysts are up to 0.35 mm. Zircon phenocrysts are up to 0.1 mm. 70.5% matrix, 25.4% plagioclase, 0.9% orthopyroxene, 0.9% opaque, 2.3% amphibole.
