Sample ID:95SJP8
Station ID:95SJP8
Latitude:62.38323403
Longitude:-143.0265778
Datum:NAD83
Date Sampled:1995-00-00
Sample Type 1:Lava
Sample Type 2:Flow
Field Lithology:Dacite
Text Description:
Platy flow, 100 - 150’ thick, sample was taken 50 - 75’ below rubble zone with overlying flow (95SJP7). Outcrop forms cliff-like exposure at Site 8. Fine grained, holocrystalline, porphyritic with a matrix of cryptocrystalline material, feldspar, opaque and alteration. Plagioclase phenocrysts (An45 - An59) are up to 1.88 mm and frequently have oscillatory zoning; normal zoning is less commonly. Orthopyroxene phenocrysts are up to 0.5 mm and often have opaque inclusions. Opaque phenocrysts are up to 0.4 mm. 81.6% matrix, 16.7% plagioclase, 1.0% orthopyroxene, 0.7% opaque.
