SAMPLE INFO : 93SJP6
Sample ID:93SJP6
Station ID:93SJP6
Latitude:62.36684409
Longitude:-143.0604653
Datum:NAD83
Date Sampled:1993-00-00
Sample Type 1:Lava
Sample Type 2:Flow
Field Lithology:Dacite
Text Description:
Massive, platy flow underneath a lahar at Site 9. Fine-grained, holocrystalline, seriate to glomeroporphyritic with a matrix of cryptocrystalline material, plagioclase, opaques and alteration. Matrix has a 'mothy' look caused by patches of commonly oriented plagioclase needles and small crystals. Plagioclase phenocrysts (An42 - An64) are up to 0.7 mm and commonly are oscillatory zoned; some have resorbed rims. Orthopyroxene are up to 0.62 mm and are intensely pleochroic; some have opaque inclusions. Clinopyroxene phenocrysts are up to 0.25 mm. Opaque phenocrysts are up to 0.35 mm.
