Sample ID:93SJP5
Station ID:93SJP5
Latitude:62.3662885
Longitude:-143.06
Datum:NAD83
Date Sampled:1993-00-00
Sample Type 1:Lava
Sample Type 2:Flow
Field Lithology:Dacite
Text Description:
Very thick, platy flow at Site 9. Fine-grained, holocrystalline, weakly pilotaxitic, porphyritic to glomeroporphyritic with a matrix of brown glass, opaques and plagioclase. Plagioclase phenocrysts (An39 - An58) are up to 1.5 mm and some have oscillatory or normal zoning; many have large melt inclusions and poikilitic inclusions of opaque and orthopyroxene; the larger phenocrysts frequently have resorbed and/or spongy sieved cores with overgrowth rims. Orthopyroxene phenocrysts are up to 0.75 mm, intensely pleochroic, and may have opaque inclusions and/or occasional clinopyroxene rims. Clinopyroxene phenocrysts are up to 0.35 mm. Opaque phenocrysts up to 0.3 mm. 76.4% matrix, 20.4% plagioclase, 0.1% clinopyroxene, 1.8% orthopyroxene, 1.2% opaque, 0.1% alteration.
