Text Description:
A 4’ thick, locally platy dike, trending N30°E that intrudes silicic material from Dome A at Site 5. Fine-grained, hypocrystalline, intersertal, intergranular, seriate to glomeroporphyritic with a matrix of pale brown glass, mesostasis, opaque, plagioclase, clinopyroxene, orthopyroxene and yellow alteration. Plagioclase phenocrysts (An19 - An46, most An34 - An46) are up to 2.5 mm and some have strong complex zoning with prussian blue extinction; a few have convolute zoning and/or resorption embayments. Orthopyroxene phenocrysts are up to 2.5 mm and some have altered melt inclusions, clinopyroxene rims and/or opaque inclusions.
