SAMPLE INFO : 93SJP7
Sample ID:93SJP7
Station ID:93SJP7
Latitude:62.36628849
Longitude:-143.0574098
Datum:NAD83
Date Sampled:1993-00-00
Sample Type 1:Lava
Sample Type 2:Flow
Field Lithology:Andesite
Text Description:
Thick, platy flow between two laharic units at Site 9. Fine-grained, holocrystalline, porphyritic to glomeroporphyritic with a matrix of cryptocrystalline material, opaque, plagioclase, clinopyroxene and minor alteration. Plagioclase phenocrysts (An38 - An60) are up to 1.8 mm and may be oscillatory zoned, often have large melt inclusions, and some have sieve textured zones. Orthopyroxene phenocrysts are up to 1.9 mm and a few grains partially include plagioclase; one orthopyroxene phenocrysts has a patchy layer of clinopyroxene which is then rimmed by orthopyroxene. Clinopyroxene phenocrysts are up to 0.7 mm. Opaque phenocrysts are up to 0.1 mm and the larger grains are included in orthopyroxene phenocrysts. 84.5% matrix, 12.2% plagioclase, 3.2% orthopyroxene, 0.1% alteration.
