Sample ID:94SJP37
Station ID:94SJP37
Latitude:62.427404
Longitude:-143.1238023
Datum:NAD83
Date Sampled:1994-00-00
Sample Type 1:Lava
Sample Type 2:Flow
Field Lithology:Andesite
Text Description:
Flow underlying 94SJP36 at Site 3. The outcrop is blocky to platy, 30’ thick with a 15’ vesicular zone. Fine grained, hypocrystalline, intersertal, intergranular, seriate porphyritic with a matrix of brown glass with microlites, mesostasis, opaque and alteration. Plagioclase phenocrysts (An40 - An59) are up to 2.2 mm and some larger grains have sieve textured cores or intermediate zones, some have complex zoning, and a few have orthopyroxene inclusions. Orthopyroxene phenocrysts are up to 0.75 mm and many have clinopyroxene rims (some grains are now mostly clinopyroxene), some have opaque inclusions. Clinopyroxene phenocrysts are up to 0.35 mm.
