Text Description:
A flow with a huge massive zone above a distinct 25’ thick reddish rubble zone which pinches and thickens at Site 3. Fine-grained, holocrystalline, intergranular, seriate porphyritic with a matrix of mesostasis, opaque, green alteration and calcite. Plagioclase phenocrysts (An36 - An59) are up to 1.7 mm and some have complex zoning, and a few have sieve textured cores or intermediate zones. Orthopyroxene phenocrysts are up to 0.7 mm and some have clinopyroxene rims, grains frequently contain altered patches. Clinopyroxene phenocrysts are up to 0.1 mm.
