Text Description:
A platy flow, 60 - 70’ thick, directly below agglutinated material of 95SJP9A, 9B at Site 8. Fine grained, holocrystalline, intergranular, seriate porphyritic with a matrix of plagioclase, orthopyroxene, clinopyroxene and opaque. Plagioclase phenocrysts (An43 - An64) are up to 2.5 mm, both oscillatory and normal zoning is common, and there are occasional sieve textured zones. Olivine phenocrysts are up to 1.1 mm and are partially to totally altered and often rimmed by small orthopyroxene crystals. Orthopyroxene phenocrysts are up to 0.9 mm and the smaller crystals frequently have thick clinopyroxene rims. Clinopyroxene phenocrysts are up to 0.22 mm. Opaque phenocrysts are up to 0.1 mm.
